A couple weeks ago, I dropped by Center Street in Southington, CT to visit The Fire Place - THE hot-spot for wood-oven baked pizza and wings.

This restaurant has won multiple awards across the state and attracts a fun nightly crowd. The Hartford Magazine ranked The Fire Place in the Top 20 Best Pizza Restaurants in the Hartford Area. And, they were awarded best bar and best night spot 5 times, with over 18 beers on tap.

We arrived to the smell of wood burning in the oven.

They have over 20 different pizzas to choose from. We ordered the Brooklyn and the Mashed Potato Pizza's, along with 2 styles of The Fire Place's famous wood-oven baked wings.

The first set of wings were coated with a dry spice rub, made by John's father, Jim. You'll see him pictured above on the spice bottle. This traditional family recipe was sweet and spicy at the same time.

The other set of wings was coated with a mango habanero infused glaze.
Both styles were crispy, crunchy, and literally finger-lickin' good.

The Brooklyn pizza was topped with sausage, green peppers, pepperoni, olives, onions, cheese and sauce. The Mashed Potato Pie was fully loaded with a unique blend of mashed potato, chives, bacon, cheese, and topped with sour cream.

Both pizzas are top performing crowd pleasers with Southington locals. For good reason!
They tasted amazing. They were fresh, crunchy, and packed full of flavor.

John Pucci, the owner of The Fire Place will tell you himself, "The only thing warmer then the pizza, is the atmosphere."

This couldn't be more true.

John and his father renovated the restaurant with their bare hands. It's a 100+ year old space, with open ceilings and walls that expose original wood beams and brick. Very cozy.

You'll find lots of creativity in the details at The Fire Place. A quality that first attracted me to this spot.

John and his father designed and built the bar, and table tops out of old reclaimed wood from the floor joints.

On different tables you'll find coins embedded in shellac - to show the hand-made, dated quality they left behind.

Pizza's are plated on top of Italian, imported sauce cans, on tables. The same sauce cans which are used to make The Fire Place's signature tomato sauce. So clever!

The whole restaurant has a warm, inviting, friendly vibe, that makes you want to sit, relax and enjoy your food for a long time.

The Fire Place is the perfect spot to share good eats with friends and if you're a local, your in luck!

From now until the end of September, The Fire Place will be giving away a free small pizza with the purchase of any large pizza. Just tell them you were referred by Kri, at It's Kriativ.

Take advantage, and go try out The Fire Place today!
Don't forget to let John know who sent you ; )
