Step 2: Gather 6 - 8 sheets of tissue paper and stack on top of one another. This is when you choose what your flower will look like, get Kriativ in this stage, the color and pattern combinations are endless.

Step 3: Start at one end of your gathered sheets, and start to fold in and out accordion hotdog style. Keep your folds about an inch or so apart for easy maneuvering in the later stages.

Step 5: Notch into your half way mark on both sides. This makes the paper looser when you'll need to pull it apart in the later stages. Make sure you don't cut the notch over 1/4 inch long otherwise you'll end up with two mini flowers when the paper rips apart.

Step 6: Shape your ends the way you would like your petal to look. I did a simple triangular type shape to make my petals edgy.

Step 7: If you are hanging these flower balls, use ribbon to secure the paper in place. If you're making them with stems, I suggest using thin wiring in this step to make it easy to attach stem to flower.

Paper flowers are used as decoration for celebratory events all over Mexico, hence the reason I wanted to teach you how to make these simple little treasures for your own Mexican fiesta. They are a quick and easy way to add a pop of color to any festive enviornment. I chose to use them in vessels, however they are super lightweight and able to hang as well. Give them away as take-homes for your guests, and even personalize them with they're favorite colored tissue combinations. You can't go wrong with this DIY; It's forgiving and hard to screw up.
